Kia is developing their own version of the Hyundai Equus. It is called K9. It is been out for a while and seen in Korea, Canada, UAE and other Countries, as the video (consisting of photos and short clips) at the bottom. It is RWD, and will share the same engine choices as the Genesis. Although, it shares the chassis with Hyundai Equus, and offered with a V6.
According to Kia website, K9 will be equipped with the 3.8L V6, and 4.6L V8. Some other online sources says that KIA will only use the V6. We will have to wait until KIA announce an official specs and pricing.
Any engine KIA will use will be mated to the 8-Speed AT.
It looks very similar to the BMW 7-series or 5-series GT (except that it is sedan!?!); headlights, rear lights, hood, dashboard orientation…
Regardless, the K9 offers high tech, RWD, powerful engines, efficiency, and somewhat refined ride without the high price tag of German rivals. Maintenance and reliability are expected to be cheaper than it’s German rivals too.
That’s been said, it cannot match the handling, performance, and
We estimate 0-60 time of ~6.0 sec. and 1/4 mile in 14.5 sec. for the V6, and around the same for the 4.6L V8. If Kia use 5.0L V8, then 0-60 time will be around 5.0 sec. and 1/4 mile in 14.0 sec.
Kia have to plan this one more carefully than the Borrego, that only lasted for about a year. However, the Borrego is selling relatively well overseas (called Mohave, not Borrego). The question remains – Are buyers in the US willing to pay $50K for a _ _ _ look-a-like. Who knows?
*I am basing the price on Hyundai Equus.
