Even though the Volt was not a success, it gave GM hardcore experience about hybrids. The ELR is a refined Volt with improvements in terms of fuel economy, performance, looks, and materials quality. It is so far, one of the best looking hybrids in the market.
The Cadillac ELR is, sadly, slow (Compare to Tesla Model S that is similarly priced). Even though it has 207 horsepower and 295 torque, it weighs 4070 lb making it achieve only average 0-60 times. The ELR price is not announced yet, but could easily hit ~$60K, since the Volt is priced at $40K.
The ELR is equipped with two electric motors, but it is heavier and ride on a wider tires, which drops driving range from 38 miles (for the Volt) to 35 miles. The 1.4 I4 engine makes 84 hp, and require Premium Fuel.
Full charging takes 12 hours from 120V, and 4.5 from charging station (240V).
